The reopening of MUJI Times Square also brings MUJI’s snacks and teas to New York City for the first time. The food items will be available at the Timers Square store on 11/20 and will come to other New York stores thereafter. The new snacks are diverse and could give pause to an organizationally-minded person wanting to plot them across a few different X-Y axes: sweet (bear shaped biscuits), salty (sour cream and onion pretzel pieces), and salty butter pies (a sort of mini palmiere) in the middle; Western (chocolate covered peanuts), Eastern (dried shredded squid), and in the middle… yuzu flavored candy suckers, perhaps. The tea selection offers healthy beverages perhaps unfamiliar to some gourmets. The green tea latte may be known to those who have visited Japanese cafes (here made not with traditional maccha but with mulberry leaves to produce a decaffeinated version) but corn tea and black soybean tea may offer something new to foodies. Prices range from $1.50 to 5.00. |
